August 09, (THEWILL) – It was only about a month ago that Christian Pulisic, American winger for UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea, was first spotted wearing blackout Puma Ultra football boots and now the scorer of the USA’s CONCACAF winning goal has ditch sportswear brand Nike to pitch his tent with rivals Puma.
Although no official figures were given, the news broke on Monday that Pulisic had officially joined Puma and the brand’s Ultra silo after signing a “long-term” deal with the German multinational corporation that designs and manufactures athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories and which is headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany.
THEWILL recalls that before this deal, Pulisic wore Nike’s Mercurial boots as part of a sponsorship deal with the American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing, and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories, and services.
In July, Puma released their Faster Football edition boots designed to open a new era of unisex and women-specific fit footwear. They have now successfully taken on Pulisic for whom they have designed custom Pulisic Puma Ultra 1.3 versions of the new edition as a celebration of the deal.
The fresh 1.3’s are customized for the American to distinguish them from the rest of the product category. Each pair has the name “PULISIC” boldly emblazoned on the forefoot. The text is stylised with the font of the PUMA logo for the first two letters of their name.
It is completed with a “torn” pattern showing the flag of the United States to match the US flag that is also found on the heel of the beautiful pair of footwear.
Commenting on Puma’s choice of the 22-year-old, Johan Adamsson, who is the Global Director of Sports Marketing and Sports Licensing at Puma said: “Christian’s journey has been incredible and has really paved the way for so many young American players who dream of playing in Europe for the world’s biggest clubs.
“Christian is technically gifted, has lightning speed and quickness of thought to change any game. Not only have we signed an amazing talent, but a fantastic person off the pitch who wants to continue to grow soccer in America, a goal PUMA has committed to support.”
On his part, Pulisic tied his decision to go with Puma to the company’s association with improving the game at the grassroots in his own comments about the deal. He said: “Anyone who loves soccer, should be able to play.
“We have a platform in sports and if something is truly meaningful, you can really help to open people’s eyes and make changes. What I love about PUMA is they share my passion and my goal to support youth soccer in America and to help the next generation to chase their dreams.”
