November 07, (THEWILL) – Neymar and Kylian Mbappe stole the show in Bordeaux in Saturday’s Ligue 1 tie as Paris Saint-Germain defeated their hosts 3-2.
As they established a 3-0 lead and appeared to be cruising to victory, the league leaders exhibited flashes of their best game. However, two late goals by Bordeaux made the game far more tense than it needed to be, adding to the dissatisfaction at the Paris club.
After 26 minutes, Mbappe’s exquisitely floated pass found Neymar, who cut inside and scored the opener in a show of skill from the two best names on the pitch.
A one-two and an Mbappe back-heel set up the Brazilian for his second goal of the game, with the Frenchman and the Brazilian producing an even more beautiful finish to put PSG two up.
After the half, the Parisians settled down and added a third goal when Gigi Wijnaldum crossed for Mbappe to slip into an empty net as Bordeaux were penalised for putting too many players forward.
However, complacency made the last minutes of the game more tense than they should have been, with Alberth Elis snatching a goal back with 11 minutes left to give the league leaders something to think about.
Club football will take a two-week hiatus as international fixtures take precedence once again. Bordeaux will return on November 21 to face Metz, while PSG will host Nantes on November 20.
