Powerlifting Medals Keep Nigeria 23rd On Medals Table

August 29, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s medal tally continued to grow in Sunday’s Powerlifting at the ongoing 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan as Bose Omolayo, Team Nigeria athlete in the Women’s 79kg event, the overall favourite for the gold, lived up to expectations to win the event.

The 32-year-old Rio 2016 gold medallist and silver medallist from the Mexico City 2017 World Championships, beat the competition by lifting 141kg to push the Ukrainian Natalia Oleinik (133 kg) to silver.

The 41-year-old Russian athlete Vera Muratova, who managed 132kg, took the bronze medal.

Also, Team Nigeria’s representative in the 67kg Powerlifting category, Ibrahim Olaitan, won a Bronze medal in the event.

Taken together Nigeria’s medal haul at the Paralympic Games now stands at four, a pair of Gold and Bronze medals. It leaves Nigeria 23rd in the Medals table of participating countries at the Paralympics.
