December 04, (THEWILL) – After completing an inquiry into concerns and allegations “around our workplace environment at the practice facility,” the Portland Trail Blazers fired General Manager and President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey on Friday.

“Out of respect for those who candidly participated in that privileged investigation,” Portland said it would not reveal or discuss the investigation.

In a statement on Friday, the team said: “The Portland Trail Blazers are committed to building an organisation that positively impacts our colleagues, communities, and the world in which we live and play.”

Director of player personnel Joe Cronin was promoted to interim GM.

The Blazers did not reveal the specifics of the allegations that prompted the team to hire legal firm O’Melveny & Myers to investigate the situation, but Olshey’s temper has long been a source of concern. Since the study was made public, two former Portland employees have come forward with similar tales of Olshey’s rage.

Olshey used obscenity to call him lazy and accuse him of going behind his back about a job, according to former NBA guard and Portland assistant coach Dan Dickau, who spoke about it on his podcast.

According to longtime NBA assistant coach Barry Hecker, who worked with Olshey with the Los Angeles Clippers, the 56-year-old Olshey was: “An arrogant SOB. His ego gets in the way of everything and he’s just a bad human being.”

In 2012, Portland recruited Olshey as General Manager, and in 2015, he was upgraded to President of Basketball Operations. He spent nine years with the Clippers in various coaching and front administration capacities before joining Portland.
