June 21, (THEWILL)- The Vatican City on Monday offered to help Nigeria in combating the current insecurity in the country. It also expressed the readiness to collaborate with Sub-Saharan Africa in ending terrorism.
Pope Francis gave the assurance when Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Vatican City (Holy See), Ambassador Adikwu, submitted his Letter of Credence.
Describing the spate of insecurity in the West African sub-region as “not just a Nigerian problem but a global one,” the Head of the Roman Catholic Church called for prayers to enable Nigeria to overcome the situation.
He disclosed that he “will personally be involved in praying for Nigeria to overcome the situation.”
In his remarks, Ambassador Adikwu commended the leadership role provided by the Pope to the world.
He assured the Holy Father of his readiness to hit the ground running, as he intends to start prayer sessions with major religious organizations both in Nigeria and the Vatican City.
Ambassador Adikwu further promised to ensure that Nigeria- Holy See Relation is taken to the next level, even as he called on Nigerians to continue to be law abiding and to represent the country’s image in the Vatican and Italy at large.
“As Nigerians in Italy, they should put the interest of Nigeria as a country in their business in whatever they do,” he stressed.
Responding to the concerns of poor relations between Nigerians in the Vatican City and officials of the Nigerian Embassy, Patrick Imologhome, Head of Chancery, Nigeria Embassy, Holy See, said the Nigerian Community will see an improved engagement.
Nigeria and the Holy See opened a new diplomatic vista on Monday 21st June 2021 to promote bilateral relations between both parties.
