BEVERLY HILLS, June 21, (THEWILL) – The Commissioner of police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, on Saturday, detained the Deputy Governor of the State, Alfred Agboola Ajayi, based on an alleged order from the State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

THEWILL recalls that Akeredolu had been in the news of recent over mounting opposition to his second term bid, including his deputy, Ajayi, who is poised to run on a different party.

The issue came to a crescendo as the CP held the Deputy Governor hostage for about four hours at the gate of the Government House as he seized his pilot car thus preventing him from going out.

According to the video of the incident, which emerged in the wee hours of Sunday, CP Salami told Ajayi that he was not going to be allowed to leave the Government House based on his concluded plan to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajayi, however, told the CP that he was not in the right position to dabble into political matters as he ought to be apolitical.

The governorship election in Ondo State has been scheduled for November 26, 2020 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Akeredolu was in Abuja recently to purchase a form.
