Police Assure Anambra People Of Adequate Security

November 06, (THEWILL) – The Police on Friday assured the people of Anambra State that adequate security has been put in place for Saturday’s governorship election.

Force Public Relations Officer, CP. Frank Mba, gave the assurance on Friday when he featured on Channels TV’s Politics Today in Awka, the Anambra state capital

“The entire security arrangement that we’ve already put in place remains intact.

“Our men are fully on the ground; we made a pledge with the people of Anambra state and that pledge is that we will remain politically neutral in the course of our duties in the state. We also pledged to provide a level playing field for all political actors to play out their political games and exercise their franchise without hindrance”, he said.

Mba assured the people of Anambra State that the security personnel will be “friendly and citizen-oriented”.

“We don’t want our presence to be a deterrent but a factor that would build confidence in citizens,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered immediate redeployment of Deputy Inspector General, DIG Joseph Egbunike to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

DIG Egbunike, who was deployed on October 26 as head coordinator of the security component for the Anambra elections has since been replaced with Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Zaki Ahmed.

Speaking on the redeployment, Mba said, the fact that the DIG was from Anambra State had its own pros and cons, adding that his deployment had already served its purpose.

The new DIG, Zaki Ahmed, has also assured Anambra electorates that security will be top-notch during the election.
