August 12, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United is still up in the air, but Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, appears to have shut the door on him joining Los Blancos again.
This summer, the star forward from Portugal has requested to be allowed to leave Old Trafford fuelled by his desire to keep playing in the UEFA Champions League and his dissatisfaction with United. Last Sunday, Ronaldo was a substitute during the 2-1 loss to Brighton after skipping most of preseason, even if he is still seeking a way out.
This summer, Ronaldo has been linked to both Chelsea and Bayern Munich, although a move to either seems improbable at this point given that these clubs have removed themselves from such a move and United is not eager to part ways with the Portuguese.
Real Madrid supporters have long clamoured for Cristiano Ronaldo to return since his abrupt departure from the team in 2018. However, a return has never seemed to be in the cards and Perez, who was unsuccessful in persuading Kylian Mbappe to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, appears to have put a stop to any potential comeback.
The club’s president playfully responded to supporters who urged Perez to bring Ronaldo back to the Santiago Bernabeu while they were at a hotel in Helsinki: “Sign Cristiano? Again? He’s 38 years old!”
