PDP Advises Cross River Govt to Listen To Workers Demands

Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade

October 15, (THEWILL) – The Cross River state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the Cross River state government to accede to the demands of the striking workers in the state.

The party made this known in its reaction to the ongoing strike by organised labour in the state.

The state publicity secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi, authored the party’s position after the party’s State Working Committee meeting.

He said: “Aware that the governor sanctimoniously prides himself as the “Alert master” and lover of civil servants, we humbly appeal to his conscience to dialogue with the leadership of the Organised Labour Union and listen to their agitations.

“We enjoin labour leadership to consider alternative avenues for a speedy resolution of the crisis which has the tendency to further escalate the suffering masses as well as compound and worsen out state’s economic woes under the rudderless management of the present inept government.”

He added that the party wholeheartedly identifies with the struggle for better welfare and remuneration for workers, not just in Cross River state but the entire country.

According to him, the party is concerned that workers who are the true drivers of government policies and programmes are treated shabbily, promising workers that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
