Paul Pogba Wants Ballon d’Or For N’Golo Kanté

BEVERLY HILLS, June 05, (THEWILL) – The campaign to get one of football’s hardest working midfielders, Chelsea’s midfield warhorse N’Golo Kanté, the biggest prize in the sport, the Ballon d’Or, has taken off online with one poll showing a significant 41% of fans believe he deserves to win it this year.

Joining that campaign on Saturday was fellow French teammate of Kanté and Manchester United star, Paul Pogba. The latter claimed his countryman Kanté had done enough to demonstrate that he “deserves” to win the Ballon d’Or.

Pogba submitted the 30-year-old’s UEFA Champions League-winning performances made Kanté worth the highest individual honour in football. Pogba’s point is further highlighted by the fact that Kanté was voted Man of the Match not only in both legs of the UCL semi-finals but in the final as well.

Clearly making it clear that it was nothing new to him, Pogba argued that Kanté was the right man for the Ballon d’Or: “What I would like to say to the whole world is that the ‘NG’ we have seen in recent months has always been the same. We talk a lot about his performances but he has always been as good as ever.

“There was no Cristiano and Messi in the semi-final, so it’s good to see the performances of the midfielders or even the defenders. I said a long time ago that it would be appropriate, if Chelsea won, for him to win the Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved too.”

And, if anyone should have the inside scoop on Kanté, it will be Pogba, who lined up alongside Kante in France’s World Cup 2018 winning side, where the diminutive midfielder was once again instrumental in his nation’s success at the biggest stage of world football.

The storied professional career of the 30-year-old took on a new dimension when Kanté became a household name as part of the legendary Leicester City team which shocked football in England by winning the Premier League in 2016, coming straight from the Championship and making history in the process.

By the following summer, the indefatigable midfielder had been snapped up by the Blues and has since replicated that impressive game play at the heart of the Stamford Bridge side. With them, Kanté won the Premier League for the second successive season in the 2016/17 campaign.

The humble but sturdy Frenchman has continued to grow into one of the most complete box-to-box midfielders in world football, and his displays have rightly led to him being recognised as a superstar of the game.

What now remains is the overall crowning glory of the biggest prize of them all. A good following of fans and Pogba hold that it is only right to give him the Ballon d’Or especially after what he has achieved this season.
