BEVERLY HILLS, September 20, (THEWILL) – The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Osun state governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has obtained a court order, restraining the police from arresting him.

THEWILL recalls that the police had on Wednesday asked Adeleke to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on the allegation of certificate forgery but President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention stopped the police’s summon on the candidate.

However, Adeleke approached a High Court of Justice in Ejigbo, Osun State, after the Police accused him of engaging in examination malpractice and summoned him.

In granting Adeleke’s application, Justice Yinka Aderibigbe gave an interim order that Adeleke should not be arrested pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit filed before him by Adeleke.

A copy of the interim order was made available to our journalists by the Head of the Media Team of Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Mr Banidele Salam.

It read, “An order restraining the respondents, their agents or privies from taking any steps by way of arresting and/or detaining the applicant, that will infringe on the liberty and freedom of the applicant to prepare for and participate in the Osun State governorship election of 22nd of September, 2018 and thereafter, pending the determination of the substantive application.

“And for such order or further orders as this Honorable Court may deem for to make in the circumstances of this application.

“Upon reading the application and affidavit of Ademola Adeleke, male, Muslim, Public Officer, Nigeria citizen of Ademola Adeleke Country Home, Ede, Osun State of Nigeria. Sworn to and filed at the High Court Registry, Ejigbo, on 20th, September 2018.

“And after hearing from Mr Kanmi Ajibola, counsel for the applicant where he moved the motion, the court then ordered as follows: An order is granted restraining the respondents, their agents or privies from taking any steps by way of arresting and or detaining the applicant that will infringe on the liberty and freedom of the applicant to prepare for and participate in the Osun State Governorship election of 22nd of September at the substantive application. The return date shall be Thursday, 27th September 2018.”
