Organisers Declare Rivers State Safe For Pre-season Football Competition

BEVERLY HILLS, November 06, (THEWILL) – The Honourable Commissioner for Sports in Rivers Sports, Boma Iyaye has declared that Port Harcourt and indeed, Rivers State is very safe for all sports lovers and Nigerians from all walks of life.

The Commissioner who met with the organising committee for the second edition of the Governor Wike Pre-season Soccer Tournament starting in Port Harcourt tomorrow, Friday, November 6, gave this assurance after the meeting.

He noted that Port Harcourt has a good reputation of hosting several high profile sporting and non-sporting events all without untoward incidents, stressing that the Governor Wike Pre-Season tournament would be held successfully without any hiccups.

He emphasised the paramount importance the Wike-led administration had placed on the security of lives and property which has resulted in the safe environment being enjoyed by Rivers people.

On his part, Bashir Badawiy, chairman of the organising committee, revealed the teams which had confirmed their willingness to participate in the competition. They included Rivers United, Akwa United, Abia Warriors, Nasarawa United, Kwara United and Lobi Stars. Others were MFM FC, Bayelsa United, Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, Cynosure FC, Udala FC, Ottafolo FC, Goddosky FC.

The chairman confirmed that all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free competition with the promise that it was going to be the most glamorous pre-season tourney in Nigeria.

“The clubs have all confirmed their participation and I can tell you some of the clubs are departing from their various locations from today. This is the biggest pre-season tourney in Nigeria and you can be sure that we will have a great event.

“Port Harcourt is safe and you can see that everywhere is calm. All the teams coming for the tournament will have a good time in the Garden City. We welcome them with open arms and promise that it will be a successful one,” he stressed.
