OPINION: THE SACKING OF IHEDIOHA

GTBCO FOOD DRINL

In his predictions for 2020, the controversial Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, declared that Senator Hope Uzodinama, who came a distant fourth in the Governorship election in Imo State, would become the Governor of the state. According to him:
“In spite of all that would happen this 2020, there is hope. In Imo State, there is hope. Hope, hope, hope in Imo state!”
“God is coming with a new flag to restore the dignity of that noble land. A new leadership that will break barriers and there will be joy in the land of Imo.”

When he was criticised for the prediction, the fiery priest retorted that Ihedioah should begin packing his belongings from office:

“Those who are attacking the message are just casting pearls before swine. The Holy Spirit has said it, and that is final. I don’t know how it will happen but the only thing is that I see hope, joy, and a new government coming in Imo state.

“Even though Ihedioha has won in the tribunal and at the Appeal court, that doesn’t mean that he will triumph in Supreme Court. Enough of all this brouhaha! What we are doing in Adoration here is spiritual, it is not according to our power, it is Holy Spirit. Once he reveals it, we say it.”

Mbaka’s accurate prediction of victory for Senator Hope Uzodinma, (who by the way visits and patronises his Adoration Ministry) has however not resolved the controversy over whether he is a true prophet who hears directly from God or a charlatan preying on the greed and gullibility of politicians and the people. For instance while his admirers declare that the Hope Uzodinma prediction conclusively establishes him as a genuine prophet others opine that he probably was privy to “the plot” to unseat Ihedioha and that his prophecy was probably a deliberate legitimization of a high-wire political plot. What is obvious is that his Adoration Ministry will be overflowing with fortune and miracle seekers this year.

It is possible that if Ihedioha had played a more conciliatory politics after he was declared the winner by INEC, the forces that were arraigned against him would not have been as determined to unseat him as they were. In an article I published in this column on June 20 2019, entitled ‘Wobbly Start for Governor Ihedioha’ I warned against what seemed to be a vindictive targeting of his predecessor in office and counselled for magnanimity in victory. His hangers-on came after me viciously. Now that he has lost power, those who were goading him on that governance route will also be the first to abandon him. This is therefore also an important lesson in power.
