OPINION: Mohammed Attah: A Good Material For House of Reps

His first into the murky waters of politics was in 1999, when some concerned citizens of Jimeta, led by Alhaji Yusuf DanUma asked him to contest for the position of Chairman of Yola-North Local Government. Infact, he does not buy the idea, when he was approached because as an introvert person, he is not use to the ways of politicians. He was persuaded by his elder brother then whom the group led Alhaji Yusuf DanUma, approached him to talk to him as it is a Clarion call by the people of Jimeta.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Attah, contested under the platform of the People Democratic Party and won with an overwhelming votes. He started the acceleration process of development in the Local Government by initiating laudable projects, that today stand the test of time. Because of the zeal, he had for the development of the Local Government, he sold his piece of land adjacent to the Government House to the Local Government where a Guest House was constructed in order to increase the revenue base of the Local Government. Not done yet, he embarked on the construction of additional office for the local Government by purchasing a building near the council Secretariat at Yelwa ward. His stewardship ended in 2011.

Because of his laudable achievements, he was prompted again to contest for the Chairmanship position in 2017, where he was elected for s second tenure. It was during this period, that he embarked on radical developmental projects. Sports as a unifying factor received his attention as he set up a club, that play in professional league called as JIMETA UNITED. the club during that time become a household name in Nigeria football. He went as far as signing an agreement with a German firm for the construction of a mini stadium.

As someone, who is concerned with revenue generation, he waded into the issue of incursion of the Yola-South into the territory of Yola-North by taking the matter up with the late Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Aliyu Mustapha, and the boundary Commission.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Attah, was born in Jimeta, on 30 December, 1952. He attended the NA Primary Schoolchool now known as Central Primary School from 1964-1969 and proceeded to the Government Secondary School, now known as General Murtala Mohammed College, from 1970-1974.

He has meritoriously served the people well and that was why the present Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintri,of Adamawa State found him worthy to be appointed as a Commissioner at the State Pension Board.
