When Nyako prepared his legal team to head for the apex court to enforce his reinstatement as Adamawa State governor right on the account that his administration was obstructed and he needed to complete his four-year tenure. Most people in the State felt it was an ‘old man’s joke’. It turns out, it is.
On Tuesday, 27 September, 2016, when Nyako’s legal team asked for adjournment of the case citing that they are yet to respond to the second respondent, Adamawa State governor, Senator Muhammad Umar Jubrilla Bindow. It became clear even to the doubting Thomases that this is just a political play.
Bindow’s lawyer, Chris Uche SAN felt undone and justifiably so, having left his legal programmes at the UK to attend the hearing. I will feel undone too. The Judge did the right thing by asking both legal teams to reach a concession in the adjournment. Which they did.
After watching this legal hassle from the beginning to date at a close distance, I can’t help but wonder, when will politicians learn to do the right? They always get on us, telling us every time that whatever they do is for the better good of the public, our states or nations. Over the years, like many other people, I come to realise that those are lies. Lies.
I don’t mean to preemt the court ruling of the case that will come sooner or later, but I am hurting inside by all these legal hullabaloos. I am really hurt that the elites of Adamawa have for a long time placed their selfish political interest over the progress of our dear State.
It is alarming that Adamawa State has had the highest number of governors in the last six years. It is even more alarming that every one of them has had a serious court issue during his stay in his office.
It is an established fact that even the most dutiful of administrators will most likely get distracted by this unnecessary court issues. It begs the question, why will any politician who meant well for his people drag a winning opponent to court, even when its apparent there isn’t a good case on it.
Don’t get me wrong, it is right for any politician to go seek his fundamental human right in court when there is an obvious or hidden case of rigging or some other electoral crimes. It’s actually a good thing, otherwise some of my colleagues will be out of jobs. No pun intended.
It’s blatant disregard for the public when a politician decides to go to court when it’s clear that he has no case to win. I mean its worrisome that Adamawa politicians are fond of that. Again, no pun intended.
Here is a governor of the people, who won an election, free and fair, and then hit the ground running with laudable infrastructural development and lots progressive strides. Why will any politician in his rightful senses try to disrupt this good work in my State? Why?
Just when we thought we have gotten a governor with Adamawa in his heart, a governor that will make Adamawa better and make us all forget the last few years of backwardness. Nyako crept into play with the flimsiest of reason to get back to power. Haba!
Why is it such a difficult thing for politicians – losers and elites to come together to support the winning government in power? We see this in some developed countries and some political enlighten States in the country. I am sure Adamawa elites can do that too.
It wont be such a difficult thing to do in Adamawa especially when its apparent that the governor is doing wonderfully well in the State. If indeed the elites in the State meant well for the public, they will find a stop to this tirade going on all in the name of ‘seeking constitutional rights’.
My generation of young technocrats have always blamed the elite in the state for the political backwardness and underdevelopment. This is the time to serve a porposeful indigenous calling. There is no point going on with a court case when it’s clear Nyako is not even ready for it.
Otherwise, how would you explain the reason brought forward by Nyako’s legal team in court last Tuesday. Baba Mai Mangwaro, pls if you really meant well for the people of Adamawa, like you professed so many times while in power. This is the time to accept reality and face it.
I have always known Nyako to be a wise and smart elderly man, even though I questioned the rationale behind some of his biggest political decisions. Take my advice sir, come help develop Adamawa or watch this history unfold.
Enough of this unnecessary politics, lets put our dear state first. I remain your very big political fan.
