November 03, (THEWILL) – Racing Genk Nigeria international Paul Onuachu believes his team is aiming for at least a point against an in-form West Ham United side in the Europa League on Thursday.
The English Premier League London side has a perfect record in the Europa League group stage, winning games against Dinamo Zagreb, Rapid Vienna, and Genk, and is only three points from from qualifying for the knockout stages.
Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, and Jarrod Bowen all scored for the Hammers in a 3-0 victory over Genk a few weeks ago.
That match was a well-fought tie for most of the 90 minutes, with Genk putting in a committed display. In fact, the visitors could have taken the lead early on when Theo Bongonda’s headed goal was ruled out after a narrow offside call against Junya Ito in the build-up.
But West Ham grew into the game and took the lead on the stroke of half-time, when Dawson bundled in Cresswell’s corner. Genk continued to entertain in the second half, but they fell apart in a crucial five-minute spell allowing the Hammers add two more goals.
With three points separating the three remaining teams in Group H, a draw against West Ham would improve Genk’s prospects of progressing to the Europa League or Europa Conference League knockout stage.
“If we can keep a point at home against West Ham on Thursday, we will take an important step towards qualifying,” Onuachu said ahead of the for fixture.
After going scoreless against West Ham and four previous opponents, Onuachu scored in a 6-2 thrashing of Zulte Waregem last weekend.
