Onagoruwa, Ex-Justice Minister Who Dumped Abacha’s Cabinet, Dies At 80

SAN FRANCISCO, July 21, (THEWILL) – Former Attorney-General of the Federation and human rights activist, Olu Onagoruwa, on Friday died at age 80.

Onagoruwa was appointed as AGF in November 1993 by then head of state, late Sani Abacha. He left the post a few months after his appointments, following disagreements with the military junta.

Onagoruwa studied law at the University of London where he obtained his LL.B; LL.M and PhD degrees before returning to the country, where he attended the Nigerian Law School.

He established the Onagoruwa Chambers in the early 80s and became a key figure in Nigeria’s human rights struggle. His core areas of practice included: constitutional law, legislative matters, banking and insolvency, oil and gas, telecommunication law and litigation.
