July 23, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says he will soon speak on recent happenings in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor made the remarks in response to recent statement by the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku, had in an interview on Arise TV on Friday, said he chose who he felt could deliver among the nominees that were presented to him.

Asked why he rejected Wike as his running mate, Atiku said Wike was not rejected and that he only picked someone he could work with “amicably.”

“I didn’t reject Wike, I picked who can deliver. Wike is brilliant and tenacious. Going by history, I picked an Igbo as running mate in 2007, in 2019. I still picked an Igbo as running mate for 2023.

“The committee that presented the three nominees was chaired by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom. They recommended three people, so I picked one. People should be fair to me and state the facts”, he added.

But in a tacit response to Atiku’s interview, Wike tweeted on Saturday night, that Nigerians would know the truth about recent events in the party when he finally speaks.

“On Atiku, I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times”, Wike wrote on Twitter.

The Rivers governor has remained silent after the May 28 presidential primary election.

Former Vice President, Atiku, had defeated Wike and other aspirants in the PDP Presidential primary held in Abuja.

Wike, who was tipped as Atiku’s running mate equally lost the slot to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

The Rivers Governor, who has since kept a sealed lips over the post-primary crisis, has held several meetings with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties, raising concerns about his future with Nigeria’s main opposition party.

However, in a bid to address the perceived grievances of the governor, the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP set up a reconciliatory committee to meet with Wike over the fallout of the party’s presidential primary and crisis trailing the nomination of a running mate.
