October 05, (THEWILL) – Kenneth Omeruo, a former Chelsea centre back, is one of three new arrivals to the Super Eagles’ camp before the team’s first grass training session, ahead of their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup double-header qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR).
On Tuesday morning, Cypriot-based Omonia Nicosia duo Abdullahi Shehu and goalie Francis Uzoho joined the Leganes star and the rest of the squad at the Eko Hotels & Suites camp of the national senior men’s national football team.
Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, and Maduka Okoye were the only four players still expected of the invited squad.
In the Super Eagles’ away win against Cape Verde last month, Omeruo and Shehu made unusual starts as the UK contingent of the team were not allowed to travel to the Archipelago Island. For CAR, Osimhen, Iheanacho, Simon, and Okoye are all set to start in manager Gernot Rohr’s preferred starting lineup.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will undergo their first grass training session this evening at 5.00 pm local time at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Nigeria’s commercial capital city of Lagos State.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and team manager Gernot Rohr have insisted that the training session be done behind closed doors with only two days till the first of two fixtures against CAR. By implication, the media will only be able to observe for the first fifteen minutes before being barred.
