Oluyede Applauds Direct Primary, Cautions Fayemi

November 11, (THEWILL) – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has applauded Nigeria lawmakers for their decision to ensure a return to direct primaries to select gubernatorial candidates.

The Ikere Ekiti-born politician stated that a return to direct primaries lends potency to democracy and is synonymous with giving back power to the people of Ekiti images of the 2022 governorship election.

He said many APC members in Ekiti state have been left frustrated by the intolerance and imposed political decisions of a few.

Oluyede urged the people to be calm and consistent, just as he admonished the Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, to see the light and don the cap of wisdom by creating a friendly environment that would produce a resourceful, people-oriented candidate that can secure victory for the APC in the coming polls.

He said victory can only come the way of the party when people eschew divisive politics, bringing every member into a formidable fold that can go all out with the requisite strength to retain victory.

According to him, lingering political maneuverings by a division of the APC loyal to the governor, smacks of an attempt to throw away the political fortune of the state on the altar of petty politics and aggrandisements.

“You must have learnt that the National Assembly is bent on treading the path of honour by approving a direct primary which is the best thing that can happen to our democracy at this time. As a friend and stakeholder of the state, I am of the opinion that your (Fayemi) engagement in our forthcoming elections would be critical to restoring normalcy back to our beautiful land.

“There is no doubt that our state, has gone through difficult times in the past years, resulting in the destruction of the lifelong brand of our state, and the entire Western region as home of men and women with respect, integrity and political maturity. It is therefore time for good men and women to be counted as we seek to take our state back to honour. I am aware you know that what happens in Ekiti state, despite her small size and economy, matters in the larger Nigerian political context.

“In Ekiti, we find the critical factors that either make or mar Nigeria – the battle between the forces of good and evil; between intellectualism and mental laziness; between service and racketeering.

“As we take this course, we hope we can count on you. With your help we can begin to restore sanity to our political system, starting with one of Nigeria’s unique states: compact, ethnically monolithic and fabled fountain of knowledge.

“I trust you will join me in this quest for the rebirth of Ekiti State, where dignity of persons matters and also help restore sense into politics,” Oluyede stressed.
