SAN FRANCISCO, February 07, (THEWILL) – The Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Tuesday debunked the allegation that he recently lost $10 million to a United States-based mistress, asserting that he is a child of God who does not believe in keeping a mistress.

The money said to be part of bailout funds released by the Federal Government to states, was allegedly highjacked by the Texas US-based actress, who hails from the Ika-speaking area of Delta State, while the Governor purportly attempted to use her to launder the $10m into slush accounts in order to avoid detection by security agencies.

Following the rumour, the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC in the state called on Okowa to come out and clear the air on the scandalous fleecing of the bailout to Delta state as well as the purported misappropriation of N48.6bn Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, funds

Speaking at a media parley in Asaba on Tuesday, the Governor dismissed the allegation as spurious, saying: “I don’t believe in mistress, I have embraced God over ten years ago, I’m a Christian who do not believe in mistress, the allegation was strictly the handwork of my critics and opposition party members”.

He stated that the report was not only malicious but unfounded as the federal government’s bailout fund was never paid in dollars. He maintained that the relief money was judiciously used for infrastructural development of the state.

Okowa disclosed that despite the economic recession, his “SMART Agenda” for Deltans was still on course, particularly job creation where over 18, 000 jobs had been created in the past one year and eight months of his administration.

He went on to state that the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo’s recent visit to the Niger Delta region was a welcome development which has momentarily put a stop to the agitation of militants who engaged in incessant bombing of oil facilities.

The Governor however regretted that the state had lost over 250 barrels of oil to pipeline vandalization, disclosing that the vandalism of 80 per cent of pipelines has brought the economy of the state to the lowest ebb, putting Delta in a precarious situation.
