BEVERLY HILLS, February 23, (THEWILL) – The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the death of one officer as suspected hoodlums’ attacked on a station at Abayi, near Aba, Abia state

The hoodlums also burnt all operational vehicles parked within the premises of the station.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the development.

He said the hoodlums numbering over 100 had attacked the police station on Tuesday with the intention of taking over the station.

The spokesman added that the attackers who freed some suspects in the police station doused it with petrol and set it ablaze before gaining entrance into the facility.

He said some policemen on duty engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle, which resulted in the death of the slain policeman and some casualties on the side of the hoodlums, many of whom fled with bullet injuries.

Ogbonna revealed that some of the hoodlums had been arrested by the police, while a manhunt had been launched for those at large.

He urged all health facilities in the state, especially in Aba, to report anybody with suspected bullet injuries coming for treatment.

He said, “Hospitals can give treatment to people with suspected bullet injures to revive them, but they should do well to report such a person to a nearby police station.”
