BEVERLY HILLS, CA, June 19, (THEWILL) – The embattled Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Murtala Nyako has accused the Presidency of freezing bank accounts belonging to the Adamawa State government barely 24 hours after the State’s House of Assembly opened impeachment proceedings against him.
Nyako’s Director of Press and Public Affairs Ahmad Sajoh who made the development public in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, expressed the governor’s frustrations and anger at the Goodluck Jonathan led federal government saying the move would make paying salaries impossible during the Ramadan fasting period as well as grind social services to a halt.
“The freezing of government bank accounts directed by the federal government is just another step in the series of harassment and victimization of not only political opponents but the people of Adamawa State,” Sajoh said, adding, “They have frozen all our accounts and no reason has been given. We were not served any notice and nobody has told us why our accounts were frozen.
“We only heard from unofficial sources that our accounts were frozen based on instructions from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“This is a deliberate ploy to pitch the people of the state against the government because they know that by freezing our accounts, we cannot pay June salaries.”
Nyako’s problem with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led federal government started about a year ago following his defection from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside the governors of Kwara, Sokoto, Kano and Rivers State.
A few weeks ago in an open letter he accused President Jonathan and the military of genocide against northerners using the fight against Boko Haram terrorists as cover.
