January 21, (THEWILL) – North-East legislators elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have rejected the call for power shift to Southern Nigeria.

The lawmakers decision was part of the outcome of a special meeting held at the Hazibal Hotel and Suites, Bauchi, to discuss issues within the party.

The legislators also passed a vote of confidence on the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee under the leadership of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, who is also the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said they believe in the leadership of the party.

He said, “There are discussions on the leadership of our party, the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

“A lot has been said, some people are even criticising them, but we are loyal members of the party and always ready to abide by the decisions of the party and its leadership.

“We believe the leadership of Mai Mala Buni is doing wonderfully well going by the turn of events in the country. We are therefore, in full support of its activities, we support it, we are behind it and any decisions taken by it we will abide with.

“For this reason, I want to strongly move that a vote of confidence be passed on the Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.”

The lawmakers unanimously voted in favour of the motion which passed the vote of confidence on the Caretaker Committee.

“With this, the northeast legislators have passed a vote of confidence on Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee”, said Suleiman.

Speaking on the 2023 presidency and the issue of power shift, the lawmakers urged the APC to see reasons to let power remain in the north, pointing out that at the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, the north would have ruled the country for just 10 years while the south, on the other hand, would have ruled for 14 years.

“So, with this, the north deserves to be given another chance to balance the numbers. However, as loyal members, we will always abide by the decisions of the party”, Suleiman added.

He also pleaded with his colleagues in the northeast to support the presidential ambition of the Kogi State governor whom he described as a we’ll qualified candidate to take over from Buhari.

“You know this forum cannot end without bringing the issue of Yahaya Bello because it is an open secret that he sponsored this meeting and he deserves a kudos. He is a detribalised Nigerian who has people from different parts of the country in his cabinet.

“We all know that Yahaya Bello is a youth, agile, strong, athletic, humble, straightforward and determined. He also has maturity and is a promise-keeper. Yahaya Bello is also generous. I believe that at the end of this meeting members will testify to this point”, Suleiman added.
