Normalcy Returns In Kaduna Airport As FAAN, KDSG Beef Up Security

March 27, (THEWILL) – Normalcy and business activities have returned, few hours after bandits attacked the Runway 05 axis of Kaduna airport earlier on Saturday.

An official statement issued Saturday evening by
Ag.General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, stated that a combined team of anti-banditry military personnel and Crime investigation unit of FAAN Aviation Security Department swiftly intervened for rescue operation.

Mrs Hope-Ivbaze also added that there was one casualty reported in the incident, adding that normalcy has since been restored at the airport.

According to her, the team also recovered two motorbikes abandoned by the bandits.

“Additionally, heavy reinforcement team from the Nigerian Defence Academy is on ground to ensure safety and security of airport workers/users.The FAAN AVSEC Department has equally released operational vehicles to the team for patrol purposes”, she said in the statement.

Also, the Kaduna State Government has confirmed that security forces have repelled an attack in the vicinity of the Kaduna International Airport.

Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan in a statement on Sunday, stated that troops stationed within and around the the airport responded and repelled the attackers.

He stated that “however, the bandits unfortunately shot and killed a staff member stationed at the perimeter fence, who raised alarm on sighting them.”

“Airport operations resumed with scheduled flights departing after the incident.”

According to the statement, security forces are conducting operations in the airport general area.

Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i has commended the security forces for their prompt response to the attack, and for repelling the attackers.

The Governor expressed sadness at the report of the casualty, and sent condolences to the family of the victim, while offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
