May 24, (THEWILL) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria( FAAN) has debunked reports that an aircraft crash-landed in the Ikeja area of the state on Tuesday.
In a statement, the authority asked the general public to disregard the news making rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja airport.
“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer who was taking it to its final destination,” FAAN added.
A viral video has surfaced on social media, insinuating that a plane crash-landed in Ikeja, causing panic among road users on Tuesday night.
According to information, the shocking incident happened at exactly 8.30pm.
But in a swift reaction to the viral video, the Zonal Coordinator, South-West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said after due consultations with all critical stakeholders and tracking of all incoming and outgoing flights in Lagos, there is no plane missing so far.
He added, “The Control Tower could not confirm and no plane is missing on the TRACON. It is pertinent to clear the rumour going round on the purported plane crash landing around Ikeja with a obscuring footage in a crowded traffic scene.
“After due consultations with all critical stakeholders and tracking of all incoming and outgoing flights in Lagos, there is no plane missing so far.”
An official at the airport, who also confirmed that there was no crash, said the wings of the aircraft were removed for easy towing.
Also, an eyewitness around Ikeja, said it was a decommissioned aircraft, which was getting transported to an unknown location.
The eyewitness said: “The aircraft has been grounded for a long time and it is not serviceable. It was just towed/ transported out of the airport by the truck. Disregard the rumour of plane crash.”
