SuperSport can confirm that at least six local referees have been suspended for six months by the Ghana FA for providing fake BECE certificates.

The Basic Education Certificate Exams are the first level of school leavers’ documentation in Ghana’s curricular ladder.

The nine are Uriah Glah (Accra), Daniel Dorgbertor (Sunyani), Amofa Sarkodie (Obuasi) and Augustine Akugre (Bolga).

Others are Alex Akugre (Tamale), Osman Ouagragou (Bolga), Samuel Kyeremeh Yeboah (Berekum) and Prince Tawiah, (Techiman), together with Frederick Bediako (Accra).

They have been charged with impersonation and providing fake documents.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, retired referee Alex Quartey hinted that the story was true, but said official word from the Ghana FA is awaited.

Though the GFA and RAG have remained tight lipped, Citi Sports checks show that the charges are the reason why the nine refs have been omitted from the list of officials for this Ghana Premier League season.
