UPDATE: Nine Imo Lawmakers Defect To APC As Deputy Speaker Resigns

SAN FRANCISCO, January 21, (THEWILL) – Nine lawmakers of the Imo State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from three other parties which are: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Action Alliance (AA).

Also, the Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Okey Onyekanma, has resigned. His resignation was announced by the Speaker, Chiji Collins, while Minority Leader, Ekene Nnodimele, also resigned his position. Nnodimele was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after stepping down.

The lawmakers who defected are Authur Egwim (Ideato North), AA; Chyna Iwuanyanwu (Nwangele), PDP; Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe), PDP; Obinna Okwara (Nkwerre), AA; and Paul Emeziem (Onuimo) also from PDP.

Others are Johnson Duru (Ideato South), AA; Ngozi Obiefule (Isu) AA; and Heclus Okorocha (Ohaji/Egbema) from PDP.

The Speaker read their letters of defection on Tuesday.
