August 29, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi was in impressive vein of form on Sunday for his Ligue 1 side Lorient even though they were held to a 2-2 draw at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis by Lens after a clean Moffi assist set up the visitor’s second goal.

Lens opened the scoring in the 24th minute courtesy of a brilliant Jonathan Clauss free-kick that beat Paul Nardi in the Lorient goal. However, in less than three minutes, Moffi’s side were back on level terms through Armand Laurienté, who left-footed a shot home.

Moffi was on the brink of a second for Lorient moments later, but his left-footed shot from the centre of the box narrowly missed the target and sailed harmlessly off. He was at it again with another left footed shot from outside the box, which Jean-Louis Leca, Lens keeper, kept out.

The persistent knocking on the Lens goal area yielded fruit as Lorient piled forward again in a wave of attack. This time Moffi laid the pass to teammate Thomas Monconduit, whose left-footer from outside the box make it 2-1, five minutes after the half hour mark.

The hosts rallied after the break to mount pressure on the Lorient defense. They forced the visitors to concentrate on keeping their lead rather than building on their goal advantage. The pressure to equalise was sustained and their efforts were successful in the 70th minute.

Lens’ midfielder Seko Fofana fired their equaliser with a volley from the centre of the box to the top left corner of the net that gave Nardi no chance. But, it energised the hosts to seek another goal and all three points.

There were no further goals, though, and both sides settled with the points shared. Still, it was an impressive all-around performance for Moffi. So far this season, he has registered a goal and an assist for himself in four Ligue 1 matches.

As the league breaks for international engagements, Moffi will hope to replicate that form for the country. The forward was included in Gernot Rohr’s 30-man squad for the country’s World Cup qualifiers in September against Liberia and Cape Verde.
