BEVERLY HILLS, April 21, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ star forward Rasheedat Ajibade came to the rescue of her Primera Iberdrola side Atletico Madrid Feminino, in their Copa de la Reina quarter-final match against Real Sociedad Femenino as she netted the only goal of the fixture.

As the only goal-scorer in the tie, Ajibade secured a semi-final berth for Atletico in the Wednesday evening game after what seemed to be a game inching ever closer to a stalemate with only two minutes of stoppage time remaining changed the fortunes of both clubs with her winning strike.

At the Estadio Zubieta XXI in Lasarte-Oria, Ajibade controlled a welcoming pass from Ludmila da Silva to produce the goal to the excitement of her team and coaching crew, all of whom celebrated with the goal-scorer and congratulated themselves for the achievement. There was no time left after that as the game soon ended.

The 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations winner, who already has a Supercopa Femenina triumph with Atletico in her kitty, is on the verge of adding the Copa de la Reina to her collection.

The most worrisome threat to that possibility will be the imperial form that top rival Asisat Oshoala’s Barcelona is in this season. Barca is yet to lose or draw a match after 24 League games.

THEWILL recalls that Ajibade announced her contract with Atletico two weeks after waving farewell to previous club, the Norwegian Topserisien side, Avaldsnes IL, via her social media handle. She left Norway two years after the Norwegian giants secured her services from Nigeria Women Premier League side FC Robo Queens on a two-year deal.
