Nigeria’s Mixed Relay Team Finish Sixth At World Championships In Oregon

July 17, (THEWILL) – Team Nigeria’s participation in the World Athletics Championships taking place in Oregon, USA, ended in a disappointing note for the 4x400m mixed relay team, which finished 6th in the final.

There were high hopes around the team after they qualified with the best time of 3:14:59s in their qualifiers. Unfortunately, the team was unable to top that performance, finishing the final with a slower time of 3:16:21 and ended up only ahead of Italy and the Republic of Ireland.

One reason it seemed to have not worked out well enough was because they decided on a tweak of their formation.

As Patience George had a faster run of 50.72 seconds, they decided to swap the second leg she had run in the Heat with Imaobong Uko’s anchor leg. However, the tweaking did not have the desired effect.

Breasting the tape in 3:09.82s, the Dominican Republic took first place to claim the gold. The Netherlands set a national record to earn silver in 3:09.90s and the hosts, the United States finished third in 3:10.16s.
