Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala Features In UWCL Barca vs Chelsea Final On Sunday

BEVERLY HILLS, May 14, (THEWILL) – When Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala hurt herself 10 days ago while in action for Primera Iberdrola club Barcelona Femeni, and was diagnosed as having sprained her left ankle, it put her continued participation in the remaining of the Spanish Champions’ fixtures in doubt.

To further buttress that, the striker, who was in the Barcelona side that defeated the ladies of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain at the quarter-final and semi-final stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, sat out Barcelona’s last two league matches against Sevilla and Granadilla Tenerife.

Even in the video celebrating their sixth overall Iberdrola title, after they successfully defended the league trophy they earned last year with a 100% win record in 26 matches, the 26-year-old was seen with a bandaged leg, singing and playing around poolside, with teammates about six days ago.

She was therefore not expected to be in contention to feature for her club in the UWCL Final on Sunday, May 16, against the very determined ladies from London, Chelsea Ladies, who also successfully defended their Women’s Super League title the very same day Barca did.

However, the former Arsenal and Liverpool striker has been named in a 23-player squad that arrived in Gothenburg on Friday evening ahead of the Sunday finale. She is set to undergo a late fitness test that will ultimately determine if she plays in the final.

Before that, Oshoala, whose sensational season for the champions includes 15 goals in 21 league appearances plus four in the UWCL, will train with her Blaugranes teammates at the Ullevi Stadium on Saturday.
