BEVERLY HILLS, August 31, (THEWILL) – British singer and songwriter, Adele Adkins, is the focus of conversation on social media as pictures of her wearing a Jamaican flag bikini and her hair twisted into Bantu knots trended online.

The 32-year-old Grammy award winner took to her Instagram Monday to share a photo revealing her in a Jamaican flag bikini and the traditional African Bantu hairstyle.

“Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London,” she wrote, alongside the picture.

The picture was obviously taken last year as the emergence of coronavirus made the event to hold virtually this year.

However, the emergence of the photo has opened the floodgates of arguments as many took to the micro-blogging platform accusing the ‘Hello’ crooner of cultural appropriation due to the hairstyle and outfit.

Here’s what some users had to say: “If 2020 couldn’t get anymore bizarre, Adele is giving us Bantu knots and cultural appropriation that nobody asked for. This officially marks all of the top white women in pop as problematic. Hate to see it,” a user wrote.

“Dear American woke folks, you cannot have this on your head and be shouting cultural appropriation because Adele chooses to wear bantu knots,” another user wrote.

Kelvin Odanz (@MrOdanz) wrote: “Still trying to understand how this debate debate about Adele’s hairstyle benefits future generations of “black people” around the world. And can Black Americans stop forcing other black people around the world to view “race” through the Black American perspective?”

Tunde ➐ (@Tunnykvng) writes: “Sometimes the Black Americans get outraged over nothing. There’s nothing wrong with Adele wearing a Jamaican-flag bikini top & African Bantu Knots on her head. Africans love it. Jamaicans love it. So why are the AA pressed? Who made them the spokespeople for the black culture?”

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu (@Ebuka) wrote: “These Adele reggae jokes are killing me.”

Mr C (@theswampzombie wrote: “Anyone who has ever been to carnival will know that this is how nearly every woman there dresses. Carnival is about celebrating a culture. This pic of #Adele is nothing more than that.Stop trying to cancel everyone when all they are doing is cultural appreciation not appropriation.”

Oliver Heldens (@OliverHeldens) wrote: “Reading tweets about Adele, it’s so strange seeing lots of non-Jamaicans trying to cancel Adele, while I see lots of Jamaicans actually praising her 4 showing appreciation to their culture. Maybe we should let people decide 4 themselves whether they think something is ok or not?”

Ozzy Etomi (@ozzyetomi) wrote: “Lmao keep dreaming if you think anyone is cancelling Adele. Pls pls.”

乙ㄖ乇 (@moonfuckedd) writes: “Dear Black Americans, y’all are not the the spokesmen for the black race, ethnically, Adele outfit and hairstyle is none of your business…pay attention to the shitt y’all got going on in the US.”

Trincão (@badniggafela) writes: “Black Americans trying to Cancel Adele for making an African Hair style and wearing A Jamaican flag will forever be funny. While Africans are praising her and Jamaicans are happy she did. These Black Americans are really starting to be bitter bullies.”
