Nigerian Forward Terem Moffi Scores To Secure 3-2 Pre-Season Friendly Victory For Lorient

July 17, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles’ forward Terem Moffi continued from where he stopped last season for Ligue 1 side Lorient when he opened the scoring after only 16 minutes in their pre-season match against fellow French top flight side Brest at the Complexe Sportif Espace FCL.

The 22-year-old was on target 14 times with vital goals that saw him finish the season as the highest goal-scorer for Lorient while helping them stay above the drop zone long enough to remain in Ligue 1 for another season.

Moffi’s opening goal was followed by two quickfire goals from teammates Thomas Monconduit and Armand Lauriente to put Lorient three goals up by the 37th minute. Brest however scored to cut the deficit to two goals before the interval.

Lorient had scored all their goal in the first half and could find no way through to the Brest net in the second. But Steve Mounie scored a late goal in Brest’s favour to make it a tight ending for the two sides.

The early goal shows that Moffi has lost nothing of the steam that propelled his goal-scoring form in the 2020/2021 campaign. The forward simply picked up from where he let off with six goals in the final ten games, to help Lorient to finish in 16th position, two spots above the drop-zone.

His first pre-season goal is just the right tonic for the 22-year-old before the season begins away to Saint-Etienne on Sunday, August 8. Before then, the warm-up with continue with home friendlies against Bordeaux and Nantes and one away to Angers.

Moffi recently debuted for Nigeria, earning his first cap in Nigeria’s international friendly clash against Cameroon in June. In the double-header where Nigeria drew one and lost another, he featured as a substitute but could not find the net in both.
