#Nigeriadecides2019: Nigeria Declares Public Holiday For Presidential Vote

BEVERLY HILLS, February 20, (THEWILL) – The government of Nigeria has declared Friday, February 22nd as public holiday for government workers to enable them return to their polling districts a day before the presidential and National Assembly election.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau announced the decision Wednesday.

”The Federal Government declares Friday 22, February 2019 as work-free day. Those providing essential duties and bankers are excluded.

“The work-free day is to enable citizens return to their poling units for the reschedule Presidential & National Assembly elections.

“Security agencies have been directed to ensure safety of lives & property before, during & after the general election,” the statement said.

The keenly contested recheduled poll, which holds Saturday, February 23, is mainly between incumbent Muhammadu Buhari and challenger, Atiku Abubakar. There are more 60 other presidential contestants in the race.
