May 02, (THEWILL) – Ecuador has set up two friendlies against Nigeria and Mali for the forthcoming international window, as they prepare to meet Senegal in the 2022 World Cup group stage.
THEWILL recalls that Ecuador and Senegal were drawn together in Group A for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and will face off on November 29 at the Khalifa International Stadium in the final round of group matches.
The other two teams in Group A are the host nation Qatar and European powerhouse Netherlands.
Ecuador, also known as La Tri, is taking the Teranga Lions’ threat seriously, and have strategically organised two matches against teams from the same region at head coach Gustavo Alfaro’s request.
Tunisia had initially been scheduled to face Ecuador in the third and final game of a three-game series in North America in June, but the Football Association of Ecuador has revealed that Mali will face La Tri instead.
Ecuador will clash with Nigeria on June 2 at the Red Bulls Arena in New Jersey, followed by a match against Mexico three days later at Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago. On June 11, the South American team will meet Mali in Hartford’s Pratt & Whitney Stadium.
Mali and Nigeria both advanced to the knockout stage of World Cup qualification for 2022, but were eliminated by Tunisia and Ghana, respectively.
