SAN FRANCISCO, May 27, (THEWILL) – The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Nigeria’s regulatory petroleum agency, has listed 25 companies with valid licenses to operate crude oil refineries as Africa’s most populous nation bids to end its chronic and embarrassing dependence on imported petroleum products, including petrol and diesel.
The private refineries when operational have a combined crude refining capacity of 1, 050, 000, according to THEWILL’s tally, and will help save hundreds of millions of dollars the country expends yearly to import refined products.
