November 13, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles are one step away from qualifying for the World Cup play-offs after defeating Liberia’s Lone Stars 2-0 in Morocco on Saturday with both goals coming from the penalty spot in both halves.

After the Liberian goalkeeper brought him down, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scored the game’s first goal after 15 minutes. He stepped up to the plate and converted the ensuing penalty to put the Super Eagles ahead early.

The Eagles dominated play in the first half, but they were unable to score another goal.

The Nigerians continued to dominate possession in the second half but still could not find a way to breach the Liberian back line. It was not until four minutes of additional time at the end of regular time that substitute Ahmed Musa scored Nigeria’s second goal from the penalty spot again.

The Fatih Kamagumruk striker sent the Liberian goalie, Boison Wynney, the wrong way to double the advantage for Nigeria.

To qualify for the World Cup play-off now, the Super Eagles would need at least a draw in their final encounter against Cape Verde on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.

In their own game, Cape Verde overcame Central African Republic 2-1 to stay in second place in Group C to keep the pressure on the Super Eagles going into the last group fixture. To qualify ahead of Nigeria however, they must upset the Super Eagles on Tuesday to advance.
