THEWILL had exclusively reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria had invoked its bilateral treaties with the United Kingdom to repatriate Kanu to face treason charges at home, following his jumping bail.

The country also cited proofs that he was behind some of the insecurity in the South-East, especially the attack on police positions and the killing of security operatives.

At a joint Press Briefing on Tuesday with the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja, Malami said international collaborative efforts with security agencies led to Kanu’s arrest and repatriation to Nigeria.

Kanu and his Co-Defendant are facing treasonable felony charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu fled the country in September 2017 after an invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State.

The Nigerian government obtained a court order on September 20, 2017, to designate IPOB a terrorist group and to proscribe it.
