… Inauguration Set For September 22
SAN FRANCISCO, July 11, (THEWILL) – The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the conferment of the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 17 distinguished lawyers from the 109 legal practitioners that applied to be elevated to the rank this year.
Their approval was given at the LPPC’s general meeting held in Abuja Friday.
Notable on the list of those conferred with the rank is an ex-Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Olu Onagoruwa, who served under the military regime of General Sani Abacha.
The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr. Sunday Olorundahunsi, who is also the Secretary LPPC, made the list public Friday in Abuja.
He said three women, two from the academics, were amongst the 109 lawyers that applied to the committee for the rank, adding that two out of the approved 17 are from the academics.
He further said the provision of the guideline for the award of the rank was strictly adhered to this year, adding that their inauguration has been slated for September 22, 2014, during the new legal year celebration.
The news SANS are: Sylvanus Aghumele Ogwemoh, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (from the University of Jos), Olusola Olaseni Idowu, Dr. Ernest Mabuachi Ojukwu (A former Director General of the Nigerian Law School), Ahamefula Ikechukwu Eke Ejelam, Chike George Onyemenam, Tawo Eja Tawo and Olatunde Oluranti Adejuyigbe.
Others are Dr. Adewale Adedamola Olawoyin, Dr. Joshua Olukayode Olatoke, Teslim Olatunde Busari, Kelvin Chukwudi Nwufo, Dr. Amuda-Kannike Abiodun, Oluwakemi Mufutau Balogun, Hakeem Olatunde Afolabi and Gerald Godwin E. Ezeuko.
