June 04, (THEWILL) – Niger came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Tanzania thanks to a Daniel Sosah goal, in their opening Group F match for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cotonou on Saturday.
The game began with a George Mpole goal inside the first minute that astounded the hosts and the Taifa Stars could not have asked for a better start, putting their opponents under pressure immediately.
But, the home team responded to make sure they got back in the game. Sossa finished off a through ball from Youssef Oumarrou in the 26th minute to draw Niger level.
Yet, despite being under pressure in the second half and having more chances to score, they were unable to inch ahead and take the lead.
Niger’s Youssouf Oumarou was a constant threat to the Tanzanians. The midfielder provided regular openings as he maintained ball distribution but could have scored the winner if he had been more clinical in the final minutes of the game.
