BEVERLY HILLS, May 01, (THEWILL) – On Friday, April 30, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee held a virtual meeting to arrive at the bottom of accusations brought against the Osun United Football Club for online posts made by the club’s official accounts that verged on what it deemed to be a “breach of confidentiality requirements.”

THEWILL learnt that it originated from an NFF Disciplinary Committee hearing of a case between Vinedresser FC vs. Osun United FC, which held on Wednesday, April 21.

However, upon the resolution of the matter, one of the two parties in the case, being Osun United FC, went ahead to publish part of the committee’s decision via their Twitter handle before the full decision was officially released, communicated and published on the 22nd April 2021.

The committee looked into the issue and ascertained that it was in violation of the statutes and a breach of the confidentiality requirements for such proceedings. It was the committee’s position that it was an act capable of bringing the reputation and integrity of the members of the committee to question and disrepute.

Furthermore, the committee was dismayed by the attempts by the club to be evasive with their answers even in their admission of culpability and accused them of being “economical with the truth” by claiming to have sourced the information from local media, which they failed to substantially prove.

As a result of these, the NFF Disciplinary Committee reached the following decisions:

  1. That Osun United FC is liable for the said publication made via its official twitter handle.
  2. That Osun United FC is to pay a fine of the sum of #500,000.00 (five hundred thousand Naira) only for this infraction.
  3. Osun United FC is hereby ordered to, within 48 hours, tender a written apology to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Nigeria National League (NNL) and the NFF Disciplinary Committee, and to publish the same via their official Twitter handle.
  4. That the above decisions are without prejudice to the right of appeal by Osun United FC.

In attendance at the hearing were the officials of the following committee: Musa Amadu, Esq (Chairman), Prof. Olufemi Adegbesan (Deputy Chairman), Adamu Sani Osmond, Esq (Member), Damon N. Dashe, Esq (Member), Chike Onyeacho, Esq (Member), Kevin Omuojine, Esq (Member), Queen W. Otarakpo, Esq (Secretary)

The Osun United FC was represented by the team manager, Kabiru Adekunle, and their Media Director, Tajudeen Amadu.
