November 04, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has criticised what it calls “speculations and innuendos”, over its relationship with Mr José Santos Peseiro, head coach of the Super Eagles, concerning the backlog of owed salaries.

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of media hubbub surrounding Peseiro and the NFF, with some media outlets speculating that the football governing body had appointed an interim coaching staff to take over from Peseiro in the event of a complete breakdown of the deal with the Portuguese manager.

In a statement put out on Friday, Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, said: “Most of these speculations and innuendoes are simply ridiculous because we have no problem whatsoever with Mr Peseiro. He is doing his job as Head Coach of the Super Eagles and contrary to some of the more fictitious claims, he has not reported the NFF to FIFA with regard to his wages.

“I want to appeal to the media to make efforts to get their facts right before going to press. There is no need to speculate and engage in half-truths and outright falsehood in these matters. Some of these speculations and innuendoes create disharmony and disenchantment in key quarters. The NFF and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development are working on Mr Peseiro’s wages and these will be settled shortly.”

Sanusi claimed that Peseiro has been working diligently and without interruption, even compiling his Super Eagles lineup for the forthcoming international friendlies against Portugal in Lisbon on November 17th.
