BEVERLY HILLS, May 08, (THEWILL) – Brazilian international Neymar, playmaker extraordinaire for French champions Paris Saint-Germain of Ligue 1 has committed his future to Les Parisiens by extending his contract until 2025, as announced by the club on Saturday.
The 29-year-old moved to the Paris club after leaving Catalan giants Barcelona in August 2017, on a five-year deal at the all-time highest fee for a football transfer, which still stands today, at a world-record cost of €222 million.
Throughout the season stories of transfer moves have been bandied around linking Neymar with moves to join former strike partner and close friend, Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, in Barca or of Messi coming to join him in PSG.
Although neither player confirmed or denied these stories outright, Neymar’s new contract deal confirms his firm commitment to the PSG project as it heads into the end of Mauricio Pochettino’s first half-season with the Paris club. It now remains to be seen if Messi will do the same at Barca or keep his options to leave open.
Based on the terms of his deal, Neymar is now likely to earn about €30 million per season in the French capital and will be part of the squad’s next attempt to clinch the still elusive European prize, which was part of the reason he was prised from Catalonia to Paris.
