BEVERLY HILLS, November 01, (THEWILL) – Everton came into Matchday 7 in an away game at St. James’s Park, looking to move back to the summit of the Premier League table. With 13 points after six matches, a victory against Newcastle United was going to draw them level with Liverpool but with better goal difference.

The Magpies seeking their own advancement, decided to put that progression on hold. Although, the Toffees had won on six of their last nine visits to St James’ Park, and Newcastle had won just one of their last seven in the Premier League, Saturday was for the hosts.

Newcastle’s English centre forward Callum Wilson scored twice as they put Everton to the sword 2-1. The ex-Bournemouth striker bagged a second-half brace for the Magpies first with a penalty kick and again with a tap in from a deflected shot.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s stoppage-time strike was a mere consolation for the Toffees, who miss out on the opportunity to go back to the top of the Premier League table.

Everton will be desperate to respond when they welcome Manchester United to Goodison Park next weekend. For Newcastle, a trip to Southampton awaits as they aim to build on Saturday’s victory.
