Adoke Says US Government Requested Buruji’s Extradition, Justifies Arrest

The United States Government has requested the extradition of Senator-elect, Mr. Kashamu Buruji over narcotics related allegations, Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, said on Saturday, justifying the raid by NDLEA officials at the Lekki residence of the politician.

Adoke said the government would follow legal procedure in the extradition process.

Buruji was still holed up inside his Lekki home at 3pm local time and has refused to surrender to authorities.

Over a dozen NDLEA officials had surrounded Buruji’s residence Saturday morning to effect his arrest prompting a statement from his media aide, describing the action as illegal and accusing a PDP chieftain, Mr. Bode George, whose wife is the Director-General of the Agency, of being behind the action.

“… This latest onslaught is a confirmation of the alleged plot to illegally abduct him in spite of the pending suit against this illegality.

“As a matter of fact, the court has ordered parties in the matter including the NDLEA to maintain status quo until judgment is delivered on Wednesday 27th May 2015…” the statement said.
