Ndidi Injures Medial Ligament, Becomes Huge Doubt For Nigeria Against Ghana

March 18, (THEWILL) – Wilfred Ndidi, the midfield enforcer for the Super Eagles, injured his medial ligament in Leicester’s Europa Conference League Round of 16 fixture at the Roazhon Park in France on Thursday.

It is feared that Ndidi will not be ready to don the Green and White colours of Nigeria in the country’s March 25 World Cup playoffs against Ghana.

As THEWILL reported, the Super Eagles will meet the Black Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in a week, before hosting the Ghanaians in Abuja four days later for the reverse fixture of the double-header ties.

Ndidi, who has been named in the squad of the Super Eagles to face Ghana, worriedly hobbled off in the 60th minute of Leicester’s 2-1 loss to Rennes.

In his post-match comments, Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes’ manager, indicated that the Nigerian midfielder may have torn his ligament. Rodgers said: “Ndidi has a blocked tackle, so it is his medial ligament and his knee, so we will see how that is.”

For the most part, a medial ligament injury takes six weeks to heal on average. However, if the situation is not as serious as it appears, the athlete could return in a week without complications. Still, it will be very optimistic to expect that Ndidi, whose history of dealing with comparable issues is not encouraging, will be ready by the 25th for the first leg in Kumasi.

Oghenekaro Etebo and Frank Onyeka have lately returned to the Super Eagles’ lineup for the games against Ghana. On the other hand, Ogenyi Onazi is on the bench and could be called up for the games.

Since joining the national squad, Ndidi has been one of the most significant players for the Super Eagles.
