September 27, (THEWILL) – Barely three months after assuming office, the General Manager of the National Arts Theatre, Prof Sunday Ododo, launched his vision for the theatre complex.
It would be recalled that Prof Ododo had promised, at the National Theatre Workers Capacity Building Workshop, that he would do everything possible to ensure that the National Theatre attains its right of place and function in the social and cultural mix of the Nigerian economy.
Following that, a stakeholders’ roundtable attended by selected prospective partners, sponsors and patrons was held recently at Alausa, Lagos, to effect the continuation of the vision, albeit with the full involvement of corporate partners.
According to Ododo, the round table engagement was only birthed after a careful examination and identification of the major challenges facing the National Theatre and the realistic, sustainable ways of overcoming the challenges for the mutual benefit of the public, who hold the National Theatre in trust, and the corporate world for whom there are numerous opportunities of collaborations and pecuniary partnerships.
Noting that the National Theatre edifice was undergoing much-needed revamping, rehabilitation and restoration, he said the round table was a prelude to “the new National Theatre to come as the partnerships and collaborations forged from the engagement would serve as the arteries to supply the impetus that would positively spur the operations in the new National Theatre.”
