August 04, (THEWILL) – A High Court sitting in Akwa Ibom state has sentenced Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of Iniobong Umoren, a graduate of philosophy, University of Uyo.
The trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, gave the verdict on Thursday.
Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, was killed in April, 2021.
She was job hunting while awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Umoren, however, was declared missing in May, 2021 after leaving home to meet Akpan over a potential job offer in Akwa Ibom and was found dead days later.
Uduak’s father, Frank Akpan, and his sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused) were discharged and acquitted.
