BEVERLY HILLS, March 13, (THEWILL) – Popular comedian and actor, Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, says he has no regrets being part of the #OccupyLekki protesters.

THEWILL had reported that the comedian and some other protesters were arrested during the protest at the Lekki toll gate as they demanded justice for the victims of the October 20, 2020 #EndSARS protests.

Speaking with The Punch on Saturday, Mr Macaroni said, “I have no regrets. Any decision I take would be because I am solely convinced about it. This is me and who I will continue to be. I cannot be silenced.

“I hate being cheated and I hate it when people around me are being cheated. If the government is not doing well, the least we can do is to lend our voices and call out that government. If they choose to oppress and dehumanise us while doing that, that is their cup of tea. But, we will continue to use our voices and actions to speak against injustice.”

Speaking on why many of his comedy skits were now hinged on addressing societal issues, he said, “My videos have always focused on societal issues. Perhaps, it is now looking like I am more visible. That is me recognising that the God-given talent and platform I have, are to reflect what society looks like. I want to use my work of art to entertain, and at the same time, inform, educate and rejuvenate society. That is what art is meant for. We are meant to speak with our voices and actions. Even in our works, we must be able to express the things we want the government to take note of.”

He further disclosed that the support of his fans was what kept him going. He said: “This is what I have always wanted to do, as far back as I can remember. When I finally decided to explore this avenue, God blessed me with it and now, I am able to do a lot with my craft. I just have to keep going because this is what I love to do. There are millions of people watching me and loving my craft. They always want to see more from me. Their comments, show of love and support have been my driving force to continue to do more.”
